Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, and regular skin checks are one of the most effective ways to detect problems early, when they are most treatable. As a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, Dr Burcu Kim provides thorough, professional skin cancer checks at her Sydney CBD and North Sydney clinics.
What to expect from your skin check
Your appointment is a straightforward, painless examination that usually takes around 20 minutes. Dr Kim reviews your history and any spots you are concerned about, then examines your skin from head to toe. She uses dermoscopy, a handheld magnifying device, to look closely at moles and spots that are difficult to assess with the naked eye.
How to prepare for your skin check
Dr Kim looks for the early signs of melanoma, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, as well as any changes to existing moles. If a suspicious lesion is found, she will explain the findings and discuss the most appropriate next steps, which may include a biopsy or minor surgical removal.
If you have noticed a new, changing or unusual spot, or you have fair skin, a history of sunburn, many moles or a family history of skin cancer, it is worth having a skin check. Book a skin cancer check with Dr Burcu Kim at Sydney CBD or North Sydney.
