Acne Treatment in Sydney

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions in Australia, affecting teenagers and adults alike. It is also highly treatable — yet many people live with acne for years before seeing a specialist. Persistent or severe acne can affect confidence and may lead to permanent scarring if left untreated.

Dr Burcu Kim is a specialist dermatologist with particular expertise in acne. She provides evidence-based, individualised care for all acne types and severities, in adolescents and adults — including comedonal acne (blackheads and whiteheads), inflammatory acne, deep cysts and nodules, hormonal acne in adult women, back and chest acne, and acne scarring.

Treatment is tailored to your skin and may include prescription topical therapies, oral treatments (including antibiotic and hormonal options), prescription options for severe or resistant acne, and practical guidance on skincare and scar management.

Why see a dermatologist early? Early, effective treatment reduces the risk of permanent scarring. If over-the-counter products or treatments prescribed by your GP have not cleared your acne within a few months, a specialist assessment can identify the most suitable next step.

Information for referring GPs: Dr Kim welcomes acne referrals and aims to see patients with acne promptly, particularly young people at risk of scarring.

Dr Burcu Kim sees acne patients at her main rooms in BMA House, Suite 904, Level 9, 135-137 Macquarie Street, Sydney CBD - in the Macquarie Street medical precinct - as well as by telehealth video consultation across Australia. Rebates apply with a valid Medicare referral from your GP.

Frequently Asked Questions

Adult acne is common, especially in women, and is often driven by hormonal changes, stress and genetics. It's very treatable, and appearing later in life doesn't make it harder to clear.

A valid referral from your GP allows a Medicare rebate to apply to your consultation. You're welcome to book in clinic in Sydney or by telehealth Australia-wide.

Consider a specialist review if over-the-counter products haven't worked after a couple of months, if your acne is deep or painful, or if you're noticing scarring. Treating acne early helps reduce the risk of permanent scarring.
